I've been reading a lot of comic books lately, and it's got me thinking about who the best comic book heroes and villains are. I'm working on a list of my favorites, and I can guarantee it's not your average list. This one is my personal favorites, along with my reasons for choosing them, and it will likely be different from most of the other "top 100 best heroes of all time" lists because I haven't read some of the more popular titles, and I've got some different views that many people won't agree with. But it'll be entertaining, so be on the lookout.

Oh, and I bought a car :) I bought my sister's old Toyota Camry, I can't remember the exact year but it's from the mid-90's which makes it almost as old as me (I was born in 92, I think the car is a 97 if I remember correctly). This is my first car, and even though it's old and has nearly 250,000 miles on it, IT'S MINE AND YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BECAUSE IT'S THE MOST GORGEOUS CAR EVER BECAUSE IT'S MINE!!!

Just a sneak preview at my favorite comic book characters list: Deadpool will be number 1. Harley Quinn will be number 2. I ship them, deal with it.
I've been away for far too long.

The past few months have been crazy. I'm taking a break from college to earn back some money and pay off my student loans, so now I'm working full time. My job is a somewhat seasonal one, doing portrait photography. It's kind of seasonal because many people do not want to have pictures taken during certain times of year, especially winter or late spring, since a lot of folks are out of town during those months on vacation when their kids get out of school or around the holidays. However, fall is the busiest season for me, so I've been working almost non-stop up until a few days ago. And by "almost non-stop" I mean 6-7 day weeks, every week.

So now that I have a little bit of down time, I figured I'd check back in with my folks here on deviantArt. How has everyone been?

Before you start throwing things at me, know that Upworlder is still something I've been working on. I've drawn several more pages and written quite a lot of the story, but as I mentioned before, I want to get way ahead in finished pages before I start posting them, so that I can have a back-up for those days when I don't have time to draw. So for now, I'm still in the "stockpiling pages" stage, and will get new pages up whenever I feel that I am ready.

I picked up a new hobby recently, high powered flashlights. I've always been somewhat addicted to flashlights, keeping dozens scattered across the house so there were always a few within easy reach no matter where you were in my house. Recently I met a few people who are addicted like me, and they got me started on the high-powered ones. You know, the really impressive lights that can throw a beam 500 yards and light up a football field-sized area. My budget is too small for one quite THAT strong just yet, but I've gotten a couple of nice ones, including one that's completely custom built by a good friend at www.theflashlightforum.com and I'm also working on building one of my own. So yeah, basically I've gotten even more nerdy since last time we talked :)

I'll try to start uploading some pics I've taken in my travels, since I travel a lot for work I get to go a lot of cool places. Of course, that's somewhat dependent on how much time I have to sit around and play on the computer, and also highly dependent on my limited attention span and memory. But keep an eye out on my page here for some cool pictures, posted on a very regular basis called "whenever the @#$% I feel like."

It's good to be back, I hope to hear from some of my old pals on here so if you're reading this, leave a comment! I missed you all!

The past two weeks have been ridiculous. I've worked a ton, driven/ridden for over 30 hours, visited 15+ assorted family members, gone to a state fair, cleaned a fish for the first time, babysat a 2-yr-old and a 4-yr-old (at the same time! easier said than done), worked out at the YMCA several times, seen my girlfriend only once, drove a giant tractor, cleaned my grandparents' house, visited friends of the family who live over 500 miles away, gone fishing twice, and visited a water park with my family. I've been sore, sunburnt, angry, depressed, happy, frustrated, and any other emotion you can possibly imagine. I'm sleep deprived and hungry. I've dealt with family issues, and I chopped down a tree. Oh, and I saw an RV on fire on the interstate. Got interviewed by a news station in Lexington since it happened right in front of my car.

Basically, life is crazy and I'm sick of the crap. My family is so far beyond screwed up in a lot of ways, and I've had to deal with it a lot lately. I'm not saying this for any kind of sympathy or whatever, just need to vent a bit.

I try to keep my journal entries kid-friendly, but honestly, it's impossible to describe the shit I've been going through without using a few 4-letter words here and there. Basically, most of the past two weeks has been hell.

So yeah, no new UPWORLDER pages lately. Sorry, I have bigger fish to fry.

It's funny how my "vacation days" that I take off from work are more stressful and generally shitty than when I'm working. Honestly, when I go back to work tomorrow, it will be like a vacation from being off.

I'm rambling again. I don't think this post has any particular point.
So I've come to a difficult decision: I'm going to change the schedule for UPWORLDER. There's just no way I can make two pages a week with the workload I've had lately, and I don't want to try to rush myself to put up crap that hasn't been done right.

Here's the story: I created a webcomic, and was super excited about it. So excited, in fact, that I started posting it and making claims to run a tight schedule before I was ready. Then life hit me like a ton of bricks, as it has a way of doing, and I'm stuck trying to rush a new page or two every week, after getting home every night at ten from 9 or 10 hour work days. It's fun writing and drawing the pages, but it's not always the first thing on my mind when I get home late after working all day.

So here's the new schedule: whenever I freakin' feel like it.

Just kidding (kind of).

I'll TRY (keyword: TRY) to get a new page up once a week. That should give me lots of time to go at my own pace, but unfortunately "SHOULD" doesn't always mean "WILL." If I don't have time to do it, then sorry, no comic that week.

It's a tough decision for me because I love writing and drawing this and I know there are already a few people out there who are reading every new page I post. But between making a living and eating and sleeping, writing and drawing has to take a back seat.

There's another reason for this: I want extra time to try to get ahead of myself. Drawing a new page every couple of days is hard, and sometimes I get to the night before I'm supposed to post it and don't have it finished. Wouldn't it be nice to already have the comics finished two weeks ahead of time? That way, I can draw the comics for two weeks later while this week's is already done. Also, if I happen to miss a day, I have a couple pages as backup. Not a foolproof plan, mind you, but a plan nonetheless.

So that's what I'm doing. I'll try to finish the next page by Monday, but I can't promise anything since I'm working  all day tomorrow and I go to church and hang with family on Sunday, but I'll certainly try.

If anyone needs me, I'll be in my shame corner wishing I could write comics for a living.

--Michael
Unfortunately, there's just no way I can finish the next page tonight. I've had a long and stressful week and I'm dozing off as I try to draw, so even if I forced myself to stay awake, the art would be terrible. So I've decided to postpone the next page for a day. Hopefully I can get it finished tomorrow night, so I'll post it Saturday if all goes well.

I'm sorry I won't make the deadline, but I think my health is marginally more important than a comic schedule. I'll make it up by trying to do 3 posts next week.

Keep reading and check back here for more pages soon.

CHECK OUT MY BRAND NEW WEBCOMIC!!! upworldercomic.wordpress.com/

Yo! My name is Michael and I like to think I'm pretty awesome.

Here's a bit about me: I'm 21 years old. I work as a professional portrait photographer, which can be either a great job or an awful one depending on the day (since I get paid on commission). In what little spare time I have, I really love hanging out with my gorgeous girlfriend/soon-to-be-fiancee/later-to-be-wife. I also love making art using whatever medium I have on hand. I prefer pen and ink drawing or digital media, but I dabble in just about everything. I'm a writer first and foremost, and I love writing fiction: anything from sci-fi, fantasy, romance, action, westerns, you name it. One of my favorite hobbies is reading comic books, and I've always had a dream of writing my own. Recently I've taken steps toward making that dream a reality, as I've started my own webcomic called UPWORLDER. It's a fantasy/action story about... well, you'll just have to read it to see what it's about! Check it out here on my deviantArt or on my brand spanking new website!
I also love music. I've sung and played guitar and bass in bands at school and church, and I've also written some music myself. One of these days, I'm going to become a rockstar, just you wait!
